| Justen and his girlfriend, Stephanie decided that for Stephanie's Senior Prom, they would dress as Beauty and the Prince from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Stephanie had always wanted to have a Belle dress, so she, Justen and her Mom, Marge went to the fabric district in L.A., and found the perfect gold fabric. Marge is a wonderful seamstress, so she worked on the dress while I worked on Justen's Ballroom outfit. This was my first attempt at anything this tailored, plus the pattern we had didn't have quite the right collar or tails...so I "fudged" it. Naturally, the next season, both major pattern companies released what would have been the perfect pattern! Justen happened to be working at a fabric store at the time, so he got the blue velvet and gold brocade for the vest. I made the vest from gold brocade. and lined the collar and tails of the jacket with the gold satin used in Stephanie's dress. Justen already had suede boots, and he found some black slacks which with the addition of gold trim, completed the outfit. I also made a poet-style shirt with a cravat out of white polyester. I wish that I had been there when they requested the ballroom song from the movie, and did the whole scene! |
